Why Tehila Zuroff chose to be in the helping profession
Growing up in a household where mental health awareness was highly valued, with my mother and aunts being psychologists, I was naturally exposed to the field from an early age. This upbringing significantly influenced my decision to pursue a career as a therapist.
In addition, my inherent extroverted nature compels me to seek connection and derive energy from interpersonal interactions. I find immense joy in engaging with diverse individuals and gaining insight into their unique life journeys.
The prospect of continuously learning about people’s diverse backgrounds and listening to their stories is something that truly fascinates me. Each person brings their own set of experiences and struggles, and I am genuinely enthusiastic about understanding and assisting them in their healing process.
Becoming a therapist allows me to merge my passion for human connection with my genuine desire to support individuals in their mental well-being. It is a profound privilege to be able to provide a safe and compassionate space for individuals to share their innermost thoughts and emotions, knowing that I can play a role in their healing and growth.
Moreover, witnessing the transformative power of therapy firsthand, as I observed my family members making positive impacts on the lives of their clients, further solidified my conviction to follow this path. The ability to guide individuals toward self-discovery, resilience, and a greater sense of self-awareness is both rewarding and inspiring.
My decision to become a therapist is rooted in a deep appreciation for the human experience, a genuine interest in helping others, and a desire to contribute positively to society’s mental well-being. It is a calling that aligns with my personal values and brings fulfillment to my professional life.

My name is Vianette Peña, and I am a current Marriage and Family Therapy student pursuing my degree at Capella University. Alongside pursuing this Marriage and Family Therapy degree, I have gained experience as a middle school science teacher in Gainesville for the past two years. In April 2022, I received my B.S. degrees in Biology and Psychology, with an emphasis on behavior analysis, along with a minor in Education from the University of Florida.
My background in teaching, behavior analysis, and biological sciences provides a unique set of skills and viewpoints that aid in how I connect with clients and approach therapy. As a therapist, I want to work with individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds.
My therapeutic approach is systemic, meaning that multiple factors of a client’s life will be explored and considered as we tend to the initial reason(s) that have brought a client to therapy. The modalities utilized in my approach include Narrative Therapy, Collaborative Learning Systems, and Structural Family Therapy.
I look forward to beginning our work together and helping you as you explore, grow, and heal.

Though I lived in Illinois for many years and work with Illinois-based clients, I am originally from Madison, Mississippi, where I currently live. Since early childhood, I have possessed an inexhaustible passion for art and design, in all their many forms. After graduating high school in 2005, I decided to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, where I received a BFA in Interior Design. In 2011, after working with the Mississippi Arts Commission, Mississippi Industries for the Blind, and Office for Accessibility at the National Endowment for the Arts, I chose to continue my education through the study of Art Therapy, a field which combines my affinity for artistic and creative processes with my passions for psychology and sensory studies. In 2013, I received an MA in Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, and attained my professional counseling license (LPC) in 2019.
Throughout my career as a counselor, educator, and artist, I have been extremely fortunate to serve in a variety of very unique roles, often charged with independently developing and implementing a broad range of arts-based mental health and educational services to many client populations, including clients affected by low to high-acuity mental health symptoms, as well as motor, neurological, respiratory, and sensory impairments. I have also been privileged to serve clients throughout the lifespan—from ages 3 to 100—as well as clients from a richly diverse array of sociocultural backgrounds and countries of origin, including Bangladesh, China, England, Germany, Haiti, India, Israel, Mexico, Nigeria, and South Korea.
Each of my educational and professional endeavors have been guided by a seemingly indelible belief that the leaders of tomorrow should be inquisitive and observant, possess diverse interests and multi-facetted skillsets, and be capable of conceiving and acting upon bold, unconventional, forward-thinking solutions. I consider myself quite fortunate to possess an unrelenting charge to explore, discover, grow, and learn, as well as a quixotic desire for novelty and wonderment. It is my sincerest hope that these beliefs and qualities will allow me, as a professional, to participate in the development of policies, practices, and environments of practice that best allow all people to engage with, learn from, and unite through creative expression and exploration.
Philip is a LPC in Illinois and employed by Prairie Wellness Counseling Center and under supervision of Matthew Goles, LCPC in Illinois #180.007891.

Nikki Arthur holds a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling & Marriage and Family Therapy from The Minnesota School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. She has over two decades of experience in the mental health field; the last fifteen years providing therapeutic services to individuals & couples.
Nikki works most effectively with people who are open to increasing their connection with mind and body and a willingness to address this connection through mindfulness practices. Mindfulness is defined by Jon Kabat Zinn as “paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” Nikki believes utilizing mindfulness can allow clients to fully explore their emotions through the lenses of curiosity and compassion which can lead to decreased suffering and ease in dealing with the stressors that life inevitably brings. Mindfulness also appeals to Nikki’s background in research as mindfulness continues to show effectiveness in treating a variety of clinical concerns including, but not limited to, anxiety, recurrent depression, chronic pain, and ADHD.
Nikki’s approach to therapy is systemic, collaborative and strength-based. In addition to mindfulness, her work is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Polyvagal Theory and the latest neuroscience research. Nikki utilizes these methods to increase her clients’ ability to experience their thoughts and feelings with openness and non-judgment, while practicing self-compassion.
Nikki’s special interests include working with individuals & couples struggling with depression, anxiety, parenting concerns, family/couple conflict and wellness/stress management. She provides her clients with a safe and supportive space to explore their concerns, while working collaboratively with clients so they feel the empowerment that comes from accessing their best self.
In her free time, Nikki enjoys spending time with her husband, her children and their dog, Bella. She also loves to read, meditate, bake with her daughters, go for walks, and listen to music.

Dr. Keeya Prairie is a licensed clinical psychologist in Oregon and New York. She obtained her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from the University of Indianapolis. Her predoctoral internship at Southern Utah University’s Counseling and Psychological Services emphasized support for queer, rural, and religious intersections.
Prior to that, she gained diverse experiences at a community mental health center, college counseling center, and private practices. Dr. Prairie has two main areas of clinical focus: early childhood wounds and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), which often overlap.
Dr. Prairie guides exploration of the inner child and various parts of the self, pulling from the Inner Family Systems (IFS) model, to address childhood conflicts that often manifest as relationship challenges, low self-esteem, people-pleasing, or mental health symptoms like depression, anxiety, or PTSD.
Dr. Prairie also finds parts work helpful for OCD, to help distinguish between OCD thoughts and the thoughts of the true Self. Additionally, she uses traditional Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) techniques to address compulsive symptoms and stop the endless thought cycle of OCD. She works with all types of OCD, including sexual orientation, pedophilic, and harm subtypes.
Dr. Prairie identifies as a queer therapist, and actively creates safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ and gender nonconforming individuals.
In her free time, Keeya spends much of her time outdoors. She hikes, camps, backpacks, and crafts by the fire. She especially loves adventuring and cuddling with her dog, Buffalo.

Whether you’re seeking to heal from past experiences, gain clarity in your relationships, career, or parenting, or embark on a new chapter of personal growth, Dr. Russo offers compassionate guidance as you move toward your highest potential.
A significant part of her work involves helping individuals understand and heal from trauma, particularly how trauma can manifest physically in the body. She brings together her training in neuropsychology, biofeedback, and sound therapy to help individuals process and release these physical and emotional burdens. By addressing the mind-body connection, she supports people of all ages—including children, teens, adults, and families—on their journey toward healing.

Her work with PAWS also extends beyond schools, providing service and therapy dogs to veterans, first responders, and individuals with diverse abilities. These dogs offer emotional support, independence, and companionship, creating powerful partnerships that foster resilience and empowerment. She is deeply passionate about the transformative impact of these relationships, as they touch the lives of so many individuals and communities.
