Learn more about therapy with me!

Hi, my name is Philip Cameron, and I am a licensed professional counselor who specializes in providing inclusive and innovative mental health services to Illinois-based clients that prefer or require virtual meeting spaces!

At Synergy eTherapy, I offer accessible telemedicine services to individuals, couples, and families of all ages, including clients who identify as LGBTQIA+ or neurodivergent.  With extensive personal and professional experience with Disability Justice—I have been visually impaired for over 25 years—I also specialize in treatment of clients who are blind or visually impaired, as well as members of their support networks.

While my therapeutic approach is always guided by a strengths-based, client-centered attitude, I often employ an eclectic combination of modalities and methodologies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Art Therapy, as well as strategies informed by innumerable scientific, philosophical, spiritual, and artistic influences.

For each client, I strive to provide the most thoughtfully individualized and effective treatment, while developing a therapeutic alliance founded upon nonjudgmental acceptance, compassion, humility, curiosity, and logic.  As a professional, I am committed to helping others change and affect change in healthy and sustainable ways, to feel productive and purposeful, and to lead fulfilled and empowered lives of their own design!

About Philip Cameron, LPC

Though I lived in Illinois for many years and work with Illinois-based clients, I am originally from Madison, Mississippi, where I currently live.  Since early childhood, I have possessed an inexhaustible passion for art and design, in all their many forms.  After graduating high school in 2005, I decided to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, where I received a BFA in Interior Design.  In 2011, after working with the Mississippi Arts Commission, Mississippi Industries for the Blind, and Office for Accessibility at the National Endowment for the Arts, I chose to continue my education through the study of Art Therapy, a field which combines my affinity for artistic and creative processes with my passions for psychology and sensory studies.   In 2013, I received an MA in Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, and attained my professional counseling license (LPC) in 2019.

Throughout my career as a counselor, educator, and artist, I have been extremely fortunate to serve in a variety of very unique roles, often charged with independently developing and implementing a broad range of arts-based mental health and educational services to many client populations, including clients affected by low to high-acuity mental health symptoms, as well as motor, neurological, respiratory, and sensory impairments.  I have also been privileged to serve clients throughout the lifespan—from ages 3 to 100—as well as clients from a richly diverse array of sociocultural backgrounds and countries of origin, including Bangladesh, China, England, Germany, Haiti, India, Israel, Mexico, Nigeria, and South Korea.

Each of my educational and professional endeavors have been guided by a seemingly indelible belief that the leaders of tomorrow should be inquisitive and observant, possess diverse interests and multi-facetted skillsets, and be capable of conceiving and acting upon bold, unconventional, forward-thinking solutions. I consider myself quite fortunate to possess an unrelenting charge to explore, discover, grow, and learn, as well as a quixotic desire for novelty and wonderment. It is my sincerest hope that these beliefs and qualities will allow me, as a professional, to participate in the development of policies, practices, and environments of practice that best allow all people to engage with, learn from, and unite through creative expression and exploration.

Philip is a LPC in Illinois and employed by Prairie Wellness Counseling Center and under supervision of Matthew Goles, LCPC in Illinois #180.007891.
