Family can be complex. Sometimes, communication is difficult to navigate. When you find yourself in a state of distress, fatigue, confusion or uncertainty, having someone to reach out to can certainly be relieving. We can talk about what you are going through, experiencing, and learn new ways to move forward with a new lens. I offer an integrative approach to therapy that uses a variety of approaches to therapy to address each individual situation, uniquely.

My use of applying an integrative approach to therapy is based on the client(s)’ needs and can be worked out with each client. As one who specializes in Marriage and Family Therapy, I certainly understand the intrinsically different dynamics that individuals and families might encounter. With an open mind to finding the right approach for those who come to see me, my goal is to find the right approach for the client(s)’ to tackle their current circumstance(s). I also provide the choice of engaging in online therapy to meet your moment by moment needs!

About Samona Garcia, BS

Samona Garcia is an undergraduate student who studied and finished her degree at Iowa State University, where she also practiced as an intern at an in-person Marriage Counseling Clinic in Ames, IA. She is also attended a seminar where she was able to observe Terry Real, who specializes in different forms of interventions that can be applied to Marriage and Family Therapy! Samona has taken a number of courses that apply directly to Marriage and Family Therapy, while also actively, and continuously, seeking further knowledge and education in the field. Her aim is to meet the individual needs of her clients. Although, she specializes in Marriage and Family Therapy, she is able to meet with a variety of clients from differing populations.

After finishing her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Iowa State University, she moved back to Arizona, where she started her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Grand Canyon University. After attending Arizona State University, Samona transferred to Grand View University, where she could develop her relationships with her family. While at Grand View University, Samona has additionally added a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion certificate, which is an extension of a club that she participated in at Arizona State University. In addition to her dedication to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Samona has also invested her time studying different religions, volunteering as a Cultural Ambassador at Iowa State University where she helped other students from different countries adjust to America and spent a portion of her time at Grand Canyon University volunteering to assist the homeless population and elders in her neighborhood.

Samona Garcia has extended her time working with families at Iowa State University by finding a nannying job, which included working with a child on the autistic spectrum, where she learned the ins and outs of what children with autism experience and how it can impact their environment. Since her first nannying job, she also worked for two different families, assisting of number of different children who ranged from a number of different ages.

She has also worked as a Peer Mentor at Iowa State University, where she helped other transfer students, like herself, navigate a new university. She also spent 3 consecutive years working in different research labs including Network Community Counseling Services, Identity and Behavior and a Communications Lab. She spent her time working on projects, once she finished her initial tasks. She was very involved. She contributed to the work of a Master’s student to publish; Samona was a second author on the project. She also contributed to a National Conference on Undergraduate Research at Iowa State University during the time of COVID-19 which held an electronic accommodation. Now, as a transfer Master’s student, Samona works with teenagers and works primarily with students who are classified as one in the area of Special Education or Behavior.

As a graduate student, Ms. Garcia has begun to practice with Synergy Etherapy, as she finishes her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

When Samona isn’t working, she is found focusing on spirituality, practicing yoga, reading, engaging in crafts and spending time with family and friends. She loves jokes. You may always greet her with a joke! She may respond with a smile.
